Pros: Waited after buying it to see how it performed. Had it several months now, not one reset or dropped wireless signal. Laptop, iPod, Kindles all work well. The web interface is slick and nicely put together, I especially like the network map that shows all of the connections. I will say, even for myself, using some of the advanced features can be difficult if you don't know exactly what you are doing, but that can be said about all routers.
Cons: No screw-holes for hard mounting, the stress from having all cables plugged in can make it hard to find a good place to stand up. I knew this going in so no egg-reduction for it. Overall Review: Attractive styling. LEDs are not too bright but easily seen. Diamond texture adds a nice flair. Must say I am glad I dropped the extra coin. Pros: Quick setup Massive amount of customization options Excellent signal throughout a 2-story townhouse - My phone can even get the signal outside about ft away.
It looks cool. Cons: English translation in the setup menu is a little awkward at time, but still manageable. I haven't updated the firmware since the first set up, so I don't know if any updates have fixed this or not. Overall Review: I hope that this router never dies. It's been going strong for a year and a half for me, and I've never had to manually reset it. This was a frequent issue with my previous Linksys wireless router.
I will need a VERY good reason in wireless technology advancements to upgrade. Pros: Fast! Cons: Asus' firmware seems to have issues. Bad placement causes this router to overheat, it could really use a fan.
Overall Review: Asus has to be one of my favorite brands. That coupled with the spectacular review on smallnetbuilder and the decent price tag made this an easy choice. Let me first say that the Asus firmware for the router has issues. Don't use it. That firmware will make the router more stable, faster, and broadcast a stronger signal. With the custom firmware installed, I have this router doing everything! I configured the ATT router to disable routing and only be used as a modem so there is no throttle between ATT and the Asus router Asus router connects to WAN IP, not to the network created by the U-verse box and now my network speed tops out at 21mbps!
This router is fantastic! Just a note, this router will overheat if it isn't placed in a good location. At first I had this router located sitting on top of the ATT modem, but it was having issues and when I checked on it, it was burning up!
So I put it on it's own in a more ventilated area and since then it doesn't get very warm at all. Pros: Great interface. Great wireless range for both bands Great processing power. Ai Radar shapes signals to offer the strongest possible output, transforming what may be a weak omnidirectional signal to a stronger unidirectional one, improving throughput at same time. At the company's Web site, you'll find downloads, FAQs, a manual, and other support-related materials. Asus got it right with the RTU. This is an all-around great router for home users and it has a friendly price tag. Dong Ngo. Mar Its storage feature is well designed; the router is comparatively fast; and it offers a convenient way to access data over the Internet. The Asus RT-N56U's Web interface takes a long time to apply changes and the router doesn't support the new three-stream Mbps wireless speed. CNET Labs 2.
