I pull up to the front of your driveway with magic soakin' my spine. Mother: The teenage queen, the loaded gun, the drop dead dream, the chosen one, a southern drawl, a world unseen, a city wall and a trampoline. Before you jump tell me what you find, when you read my mind. Brandon: Slippin in my faith until I fall. He never returned that call.
Woman, open the door [let me go], don't let it sting. I wanna breathe that fire again. Mother: She said, I don't mind if you don't mind, coz I don't shine if you don't shine. Put your back on me [leave me]. The stars [Brandon] are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun [mother]. I think the song is about friendship and the love people have for the best friend. The one who's always been there. But a girl is coming between them - 'woman, open the door, don't let it sting' - the stinging refers to her causing pain in the friendship between the two guys.
In fact all of the 'slippin in my faith In the end the girl is ok with it and accepts it. They are saying to each other 'You've got me whenever you need me, I'm always here for you, no matter what' 'Stars are blazing.. Finally he is seeing everything in this world can be beautiful, even the darkest night - 'the stars are blazing like rebel diamonds' The 'read my mind' isn't referring to literally knowing what he's thinking, but is referring to basically reading him like a book how he acts, what he says Now is GF wants to break up.
I think "Can you read my mind" refers to him wanting to tell her how he really feels but can't. The next verse could refer to the way his relation wasn't going great and was a "2-star" relationship. But he wants to turn it around and make it great. The next verse seems to be a series of random things. However, at the beginning, like his relationship, things are good. If you can hold on long enough, you can make it to the end.
However, in their relationship they fell and "broke a wrist". The next 2 lines I think he's saying that even though he wants to keep going he's ok with a break up because he wants his GF to be happy. The next verse could refer to how they just kept waiting on some magic to turn their relationship around rather than doing something about it. I think the last 2 lines refer to how now he wants to do something about it because this time "he brought the magic".
The wall could be their relationship and when it talks about "you" jumping over the wall it could talk about how she wants to end the relationship. The next verse is the hardest. He's starting to accept that it could be over. Woman, open the door, don't let it sting"-If it's over, he wants them to at least be friends.
However, it seems like she's breaking off all communication that call and "closing the door" on him. This sounds like his last desperate cry to not end the relationship. Looking at stars is something a lot of couples tend to do. It seems like he's staring at the stars and thinking about her and wondering if she's doing the same.
Well, the basis of the song is about this statement: all couples have his fights because our differences, but our true inner feelings can resolve anything if only all can said to our couple It's All In The Game. We Could Have It All.

He lists these images in a kind of stream of consciousness; they are just a bunch of small images that make up what his town is to him- what his life has been about so far. He desperately wants to leave for a bigger and better town as described in "This River Is Wild" and "Playing with Fire" but can't seem to work out what is holding him back. I think he is asking his girlfriend to realise this as he is too confused to work it out for himself.
By reading his mind, she will be able to make sense of these images' meaning, and give him the strength to take that leap and use the trampoline to get over the city wall with her. The line "the stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun" perfectly sums up the song. The two of them are like the rebel diamonds cut out of the sun- two people who left a loving town that find a way to shine by themselves in a greater town. General Comment i think you hit the nail on the head there sally, the whole song is about the sorta stuff you might see if you were looking into brandons mind; The good old days the honest man the restless heart the promised land a subtle kiss that no one sees a broken wrist and a picture piece now most of this stuff might seem like mumbo jumbo to you and not have any significant value but to brandon each is a memory of a moment suspended in time within his mind, well thats my take on it, great song.
Anyone else? Someone told me that some magazine said that brandon flowers references springsteen in 'when you were young', so i don't think this is too far out there: 'I never really gave up on breakin' out of this two-star town I got the green light, I got a little fight I'm gonna turn this thing around' 'Thunder Road': 'It's a town full of losers and we're pulling out of here to win.
Hey what else can we do now except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair? Well the night's busting open, these two lanes'll take us anywhere You are absolutley right.
The first time I heard it I thought this. The album itself is said to be done with Born To Run the album in mind. I like the autobiographical aspect of the song mixed in with the Thunder Road references. It does justice to the song that inspired it. I think you're right about certain parts. Maybe not all of it, but I do think he had Thunder Road in mind when writing it.
I remember reading or hearing an interview in which Brandon said Thunder Road was one of the most powerful Springsteen songs, for him personally. Song Meaning The main point could be irony, i. It's poetic justice. In one Brandon Flowers interview he implied the string of cliches represent the "good old days," so maybe there's a hint of nostalgia for the failed relationship, but it's definitely over.
Destiny calling is such a rush that the magic of it soaks his spine. Even the stars are on fire with preternatural light. The protagonist could be a little bit like the rebel cut out from the sun himself shades of rebel angels perhaps, when Lucifer stopped being a light-bearer, given the writer's religious bent.
But he's shining even brighter now, blazing like a diamond at the thought of freedom and new horizons. ManoStuart on July 03, Link. Artists - K. Read My Mind is found on the album Sam's Town.
